St. James Episcopal Church

Prior to accepting his assignment here he was Rector of St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Fort Dodge, Iowa for 17 years. He also served as Canon Theologian at Calvary Episcopal Cathedral in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and prior to that he was Rector of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Brookings, South Dakota, and served part time as a chaplain at South Dakota State University.
Fr. Steve brings a varied background to his ministry. He was born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and graduated from Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin. Following service in the Wisconsin Army National Guard, he worked four years for United States Steel Corporation, then four years as an editor of two weekly newspapers in Broomfield and Lafayette, Colorado. He then spent six years working for the Colorado Highway Patrol before entering seminary in 1978. He graduated from Nashotah House Theological Seminary, Nashotah, Wisconsin, in 1981 with a Masters of Divinity, cum laude.
While in Fort Dodge, Fr. Steve served as convener of the Fort Dodge Ministerial Association from 1993 to 2001. He was a member and volunteer for the Fort Dodge Heart Association; one of the founders and President of the Board of Directors of the Fort Dodge Area HIV/Aids Coalition. He was instrumental in the development of the Church of the Damascus Road, Prison Congregation, serving on the organizational committee and as president of the Search Committee. until recently he served as board president of the Community Health Center of Fort Dodge, president of the Task Force on Homelessness in Fort Dodge, a member of the Board of the Volunteer Center, a member of the Webster County Disabilities Alliance committee on homelessness, member of the Trinity Regional Medical Center Emergency Assistance Committee, and the Local FEMA Review Committee. On May 18, 2006, he was awarded the Community Service Award by the Interfaith Forum.
His wife’s name is Roxanne and she works as a radiation therapist at North East Georgia Cancer Center in Gainsville. Steve has four children and one step daughter, seven grandchildren, and two step grandchildren.
He loves fishing when it is good, baseball when he can be at the game (no favorite team) and is a devoted fan of the Green Bay Packers.
