Liturgical Arts Committee
The Liturgical Arts committee meets on as needed basis. Members of the parish made all of the needlepoint kneelers and cushions, banners, vestments, and paraments. We use a variety of media and techniques so that many people can participate in their creation.
The Needlepoint Kneelers
In the Beginnings
In the early Spring of 1986, Peggy Melton asked for and received enthusiastic permission from the Reverend Arthur J. Lockhart, Vicar of St. James, to organize a Needlework Guild with the intention of creating needlepoint kneelers for the altar rail of St. James Church. On April 15, 1986, Peggy convened the organizational meeting of the St. James Needlework Guild at St. James Church.
The first few meetings fo the Guild wer devoted primarlily to considerations of a theme to be incorporated into the design of the kneelers. From the very first meeting there was a strong consensus among the Guild members to try and capture the glorious beauth of God's creation as seen by all of God's children in the mountains of northeast Georgia.
